We can organize a Civil Wedding, a Roman Catholic one, a Protestant Blessing, a Symbolic one or an intimate Renew of Vows. Your wedding in Italy will be valid in your own country. For legally recognized weddings, you will present documents to the local authorities and with our help this will be absolutely easy for you. The paperwork will vary depending on the nationality of the bride and groom and the type of ceremony requested. We have a specialist for the legal part that will assist you personally no matter the citizenship you have, a valid wedding in Italy will be possible without any headaches. See Legal Aspects for laws on getting married in Italy.

Civil Wedding Ceremonies

Ceremonies with civil validity may be celebrated at the City Halls of every Italian town. We have extensive experience in civil weddings. We think that The ceremony at the Town Hall of Cortona is the perfect location for a wedding, Cortona is an extremely ancient city and the main square and entire historic district look exactly as they did in the Middle Ages.

Cortona town hall (Sala del Consiglio)

The Town Hall was built in the thirteenth century and is exquisitely frescoed, making it one of the loveliest town halls in Tuscany. The Municipality of Cortona organizes beautiful weddings conducted at a leisurely pace, unlike other important town halls. Your wedding will be the only one celebrated on the day you’ve chosen and the hall will be at your disposal also after the ceremony for photographs.
The mayor or a Borough Council Clerk will celebrate the wedding, and after the ceremony he kindly offers 7 red roses to the bride and Italian spumante to guests.
We are extremely impressed with how the ceremony is conducted here, and this is why we suggest the city of Cortona as the location for the ceremony. In addition, it is very close to our Villas.

Religious Wedding Ceremonies

Foreign citizens can be married in Italy according to the Catholic rites. In this case, the ceremony must take place in a Catholic Church.

We are convinced that the Cathedral of Cortona is the perfect location for a religious Roman Catholic wedding, and the religious ceremony here is lovely.

The church is 155 feet (47 m) long and 59 feet (18 m) wide. The nave rises to a height of 52 feet (16 m) and the aisles are 36 feet (11 m) high. Two rows of monolithic columns in dark grey stone support the arches bearing the central walls of the nave. The columns and arches divide the church into six bays. A series of windows along the two walls above the arches, between the upper part of the cornice and the trussed wooden ceiling, once illuminated the interior of the church. The layout of the church is reminiscent of the work of Brunelleschi. The local parish priest is very warm and friendly. He willingly assists foreigners with their wedding plans, and is proud to take part in this event. We are very enthusiastic about how the ceremony is conducted here, and this is why we suggest the city of Cortona as the location for the ceremony. Cortona is also very close to our Villas.

We can also arrange weddings in Italy according to Protestant Rite. In this case, the wedding can be held at the villas or in Cortona in one of the city’s historic churches.

Symbolic Wedding

One of the ceremonies that we are being asked to organize is the symbolic ceremony. A symbolic wedding essentially consists of a blessing or a symbolic ceremony. We organize this ceremony in the outside gardens of our Villa Baroncino and Villa San Crispolto or in the cloister of the Saint Augustin monastery in Cortona, without limitations or restrictions and most importantly without any paperwork involved. Usually the couples who choose this type of ceremony may or may not have had a civil ceremony in their home country, and arrive in Italy for a wedding, at historic sites or in a private setting. We cover very accurately the symbolic ceremony, preparing it well in advance in accordance to the requests of the wedding couple but with all our expertise. With our help the ceremony will be prepared in all its relevant parts including a welcome speech – a short introduction before the actual ceremony starts made by the wedding coordinator; to follow, there will be various readings of famous poems. Usually, the ceremony is very nice if some of your guests would like to make these readings but if not the wedding coordinator will. The Symbolic Ceremony includes then different other parts such as the declaration, the Vows and of course the Exchange of Rings. The ceremony will end with the signing of the register which in this case is a symbolic parchment with the villa's coat of arms. At the end we will present the best wishes for the newlyweds!
